Ansel Elgort To Portray JFK

By Creative Media Times

TriStar Pictures

Ahead of his high profile role as Baby in tomorrow’s critically acclaimed “Baby Driver”, Ansel Elgort is set to portray a young John F. Kennedy in the upcoming drama “Mayday 109”, this according to Deadline.

Mayday 109 tells the true life story of JFK’s heroism during his time with the Navy in WWII when a boat he captained was attacked and sunk by the Japanese. The film has been in development since 2015. The story was also previously featured in a 1963 movie starring Cliff Robertson, PT 109.

Here’s a statement from Thunder Road Pictures founder Basil Iwanyk:

“We could not be more excited about Ansel coming aboard. Not only is he a tremendous actor, he embodies the charisma, athleticism and looks of a young JFK. We love that this is not a biopic nor a film about politics. This is simply a riveting and unbelievable tale that very few people know – about a young man who was a hero long before becoming the iconic 35th President of the United States. With Ansel, we’ve found our perfect JFK.”

‘Driver’ has been receiving some of the best reviews of the year since debuting at South by Southwest earlier this year. It is currently at 98% on RT as of today. Directed by “Edgar Wright”(Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Baby Driver opens tomorrow, June 28.

Ben Affleck To Return For ‘The Accountant’ Sequel?

By Creative Media Times

aiphotoimaging.com

It looks like Ben Affleck is assembling a new franchise. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is gearing up for a sequel to ‘The Accountant’, Affleck’s 2016 crime-thriller vehicle directed by Gavin O’Connor.

The article reports that both director O’Connor and star Affleck are returning, and possibly Jon Bernthal as well, whose character is part of the surprising twist towards the end of the movie.

This move from the studio is a bit of a surprise. The movie itself was a moderate success. It received mixed reviews and grossed $155 million worldwide on a $44 million production budget.

But the story and the film’s ending left plenty of potential for follow-ups. The film follows Christian “Chris” Wolff, a certified public accountant and skilled assassin who grew up with high-functioning autism. Chris tracks insider financial deceptions for criminal enterprises, and receives assignments from an unidentified woman over the phone.

Deadline did not report a production schedule nor release for The Account sequel. But Affleck will next be seen as Batman on November 17 in Justice League, also from WB.

Pitch Perfect 3 Trailer: Bellas Go On A Farewell Tour

Universal Pictures

By Creative Media Times

Universal has just released the first trailer for Pitch Perfect 3, which reunites Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Elizabeth Banks, Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld.

The trailer shows the Bella’s life after college and struggling to get their careers on track. The team reunites at a bar, take their act on the road and enter a USO competition in Europe, where they face some stiff sing off competition.

Unlike previous installments, the movie seems more action packed. The Treblemakers, consisting of Skylar Astin‘s Jesse, Adam DeVine‘s Bumper, and Ben Platt‘s Benji are also not part of the film this time around.

The trailer and poster suggests that this will be the Bella’s swan song. But just like similarly successful franchises, its not until its over.

Directed by Trish Sie, “Pitch Perfect 3” is scheduled to be released during the holidays on Dec. 22.

New ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Poster. Trailer To Debut At Comic-Con

By Creative Media Times

Universal Pictures unveiled the title for its upcoming film Jurassic World sequel via a new poster. Helmed by Spanish film director J. A. Bayona, Jurassic World 2 is now officially “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”.

“Fallen Kingdom” is fifth installment in the highly successful Jurassic Park film series. Jurassic World currently remains the 4th highest grossing film worldwide.

J. A. Bayona previously directed last year’s fantasy drama A Monster Calls. Chris Pratt will be reprising his park trainer Owen Grady, while Bryce Dallas Howard and B. D. Wong are also set to return.

Interestingly, Jeff Goldblum is also back as Dr. Ian Malcolm, a character in the original 1993 Steven Spielberg classic that started it all, “Jurassic Park” and the 1997 sequel “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”. He also had a book cameo in Jurassic World. Along with B.D.Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu, Malcolm also appeared in Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novel from which Spielberg’s first installment was based from.

The tagline on the new poster itself is throwback: fans might recall that “life life a way” is one of Malcolm’s cautionary lines from Jurassic Park.

According to Jurassic World 2 Movie‘s website, a trailer might debut at San Diego Comic-Con next month. So it looks like Universal is already ramping up the hype on this highly anticipated sequel.

‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 22, 2018.

Ron Howard Is The New Director of Han Solo Movie

By Creative Media Times

Ron Howard by David Shankbone

It’s been somewhat of a tumultuous week for Star Wars fans. Just a few days ago, the shocking news surfaced that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were removed of their directing duties due to “creative differences.” But today is a fresh start. According to Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm and Disney has found a director replacement for it’s untitled Han Solo movie: Ron Howard.

“I’m beyond grateful to add my voice to the Star Wars Universe after being a fan since 5/25/77,” Howard tweeted. “I hope to honor the great work already done & help deliver on the promise of a Han Solo film.”

Lucasfilm also posted their announcement on Starwars.com:

“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”

Those familiar with Howard’s part work should know he’s a good fit. Besides being an Academy Award winning filmmaker (for 2001’s A Beautiful Mind), his work on 1995’s space adventure, Apollo 13, was both a critical and commercial success. He’s also previously directed a George Lucas production and story, the 1988 fantasy film Willow.

The untitled Han Solo film is still scheduled for release in May 2018.

New ‘Annabelle: Creation’ Trailer And Poster

By Creative Media Times

Warner Bros. unveils new poster and trailer for supernatural horror film Annabelle: Creation. Directed by David F. Sandberg, who’s directorial debut ‘Lights Out’ was one of last year’s boxoffice surprises, ‘Creation’ is an origin story of the seemingly innocent yet possessed Annabelle doll.

The story will center on a dollmaker (Anthony LaPaglia) and his wife (Miranda Otto), who’s daughter Annabelle died in a tragic accident. Later the couple welcome a nun (Stephanie Sigman) and several girls from an orphanage into their farmhouse, until Annabelle began her reign of terror.

‘Creation’ is the latest chapter in the rapidly expanding cinematic universe which began with The Conjuring’s surprise success back in 2013 and continued with Annabelle a year later, and last year’s The Conjuring 2. Another installment, The Nun, which a spin-off to the character featured in The Conjuring 2, is set for release next summer.

Audiences have embraced the franchise so far: from modest budgets, they collectively grossed almost a billion dollars worldwide, making it one of the most successful horror franchise ever, a feat it achieved in a short period of time.

That successful tradition will most likely continue. ‘Annabelle: Creation’ recently screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival, two months earlier to its release, and early reviews so far have been positive.

Written by Gary Dauberman and to be distributed by Warner Bros., ‘Annabelle: Creation’ comes out on August 11, 2017.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller Drops Out Of “Han Solo” Movie

By Creative Media Times

Chris Miller and Phil Lord by Gage Skidmore

It looks like the Star Wars spinoff might have lost its director, this according to THR. “Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project,” said a statement from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

This announcement is surprising considering the film has already been shooting since January 2017 at Pinewood Studios in London.

The currently untitled film, which centers on Hans Solo’s character, and supposedly set before the original 1977 film ‘War Wars’, will be the second movie in the Star Wars Anthology series following last December’s “Rogue One.”

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are the directors behind the hugely successful live-action comedy film 21 Jump Street (2012) and 22 Jump Street (2014), as well as the animated films Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) and The Lego Movie (2014).

Last year, Alden Ehrenreich was cast to play the legendary character originally played by Harrison Ford. Joining him are Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo.

Despite this major development, the film is still scheduled for release in May 2018.
