Season 7 winner David Cook debuted a new song on American Idol Thursday night, but it won’t be coming out on RCA Records.

The show alum tells The Hollywood Reporter, ā€œI’m currently without a record deal.ā€ He’s self-releasing ā€œThe Last Song I’ll Write For Youā€ to ā€œsee how the song does.ā€Ā

Hollie Cavanagh couldn’t make ‘Idol’ fans love her

(Reuters) – Hollie Cavanagh was sent home from top-rated TV talent show ā€œAmerican Idolā€ on Thursday night after singing ā€œI Can’t Make You Love Meā€ – a song choice that proved prophetic.

Cavanagh closed out the show by performing Miley Cyrus’ ā€œThe Climb,ā€ remaining composed while fellow contestant Joshua Ledet wept as she sang.

Almost 70 million votes were cast to determine Thursday’s outcome. Audience voting was based on performances on Wednesday night’s episode during which contestants sang songs by artists from California, followed by songs they wished they had written.

Adam Yauch, Beastie Boys’ MCA, Dies at 47

UPDATED: The founding member of the iconic hip-hop group was first diagnosed with cancer in 2009.

Adam ā€œMCAā€ Yauch, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year with his pioneering rap trio Beastie Boys and founded the indie film company Oscilloscope Pictures, has died. He was 47.

His longtime representatives confirmed the news Friday afternoon.

In 2009, Yauch was treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node and underwent surgery and radiation therapy, delaying the release of the group’s album Hot Sauce Committee and a tour that was to include a headlining slot atĀ Lollapalooza. He announced the news on YouTube in July of that year. Ā

New Orleans concert marks International Jazz Day

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — As the morning sun spilled over the New Orleans’ skyline Monday, jazz musicians Herbie Hancock, Ellis Marsalis and others kicked off International Jazz Day with a sunrise concert that included ritual drumming and a string of performances, a day that culminated in the evening with a grand all-star concert at the United Nations.

In the morning, trumpeters Terence Blanchard and Kermit Ruffins, singer Stephanie Jordan and others performed ā€œOn the Sunny Side of the Streetā€ and ā€œAfro Blueā€ as the sun rose on Congo Square, an area near the French Quarter neighborhood where slaves once gathered on Sundays to play music.
