An Album Review: Pure Comedy by Father John Misty

By Sukhbir Dhillon

Father John Misty’s, also known as John Tillman album released on April 7, 2017, making it his third album in the past five years, yet this album, thematically, takes on on a whole new world of it’s own. Pure Comedy is reflection of Tillman’s perspective on the current state of the world, and by that extension, the album take on darker tones and almost creates a sense of hopelessness in the listener, surely Tillman intended for this.

From the first track-list, also titled Pure Comedy, to the last track, “In Twenty Years or So”, Tillman presents himself as a modern prophet by taking his earlier ideas from songs, like “Bored In The USA”, and building on the concepts of the sedation of the American people by means of media.

Yet even with the ideological difference Pure Comedy takes on, the music that his fans are familiar with is still there, but what truly makes Pure Comedy special is what it achieves beyond the notes. This album is a prophecy from a man who has had enough and it will be interesting to see if his predictions prove to be correct.

Overall, old fans and new fans will be able to enjoy Pure Comedy as much as they allow themselves to.

By Nicole Patrice

On March 30th Kendrick Lamar debuted a new single “Humble” from his forth coming album. The song had been sparking controversy since the day of release, leaving fans with unanswered questions as to who the rapper is referring to in this subliminal masterpiece.

In one verse, he says “Who dat nigga think in ‘that he frontin’ on man man? Get the fuck off my stage I’m da sandman.” There has been lots of tension in the game, perhaps Kendrick is trying to school these hype souls by sending suggestions to the haughty figures. In the song, Kendrick also shares his opinion on black women. He says “I’m so **** sick and tired of the Photoshop.

Show me something natural like ass with some stretch marks,” Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his comments by saying “black women aren’t the only ones that Photoshop, the racial comment is absurd.”Kendrick displayed himself as a sovereign in the video, having his men bow down to him while he gives directions. Review: Young Dolph Feat. Gucci Mane ‘That’s how I feel’

By Nicole Patrice

Young Dolph has been very productive this year, releasing his promotional single “That’s how I feel” on March 10th and his second studio album “ Bulletproof” on April 1st.

Dolph’s latest song was a response to the shooting of his SUV on February 25th in Charlotte, North Carolina. The rapper was shot at about 100 times and graciously lived to speak about it. Because of the incident, Dolph is inspired to make innovating tracks and spread the word about his luck.

In the ‘That’s how I feel’ music video, Dolph and Gucci Mane dressed rather casually sitting at a dinner table surrounded by ladies. The video seems to have taken place at a cabin, equipped with champagne, expensive furniture and high class catering. He opened by saying “For a hunnid shots, I heard you paid a hunnid stacks / Hope you got your receipt, go and get yo 100 back.” The verse was allegedly a response to his rivals. Gucci Mane’s verse blended wonderfully, speaking about the good life and living lavish, adding the finishing touches to a great track.

Overall, the song and video was hot; The words was catchy, the beat was crunk and Gucci topped it off. Once the beat comes on, listeners will get hype.

‘Green Day’ Brings Raucus Fun At BOK Center Leg Of Tour

Green Day @ BOK Center, Tulsa, OK, March 3, 2017

By Armando

It has been 12 years since Green Day’s politically-charged “American Idiot”, an album that spawned iconic songs, won numerous awards, inspired a broadway show, and became a worldwide phenomenon. But the message of their music is as relevant as ever.

No racism, no fascism, and no homophobia,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong protested to loud and wild crowd at BOK Center in Tulsa, OK, Tuesday night.

Green Day, which consists of Billie Joe Armstrong (Vocals/Guitar), Mike Dirnt (Bass) and Tre Cool (Drummer), is in an interesting position in today’s punk rock scene: the trio have produced a broad catalog of hits and lesser known gems over their three-decade career that speaks and adapts to political changes. On Tuesday night, Green Day mixed politics and religion, “comedy and tragedy”, old and new materials, leaving the crowd rocking, inspired and just having a great fun time. The band reciprocated Tulsa fans’ enthusiasm with an exciting and memorable night, proving they are still one of the best live acts right now.

Green Day @ BOK Center, Tulsa, OK, March 3, 2017

The band’s career-spanning set was a varied and wide-ranging collection, performing songs from major label debut, Dookie that delighted original Green Day fans, to hits from ‘Idiot’, as well as new songs from ‘Revolution Radio’ and a few surprises in between. The tour is in support of ‘Revolution’, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 Album chart when it was released in early October last year.
