Can’t wait for Jellicles to arrive in theaters? Well, now the film’s release has been dated. The movie version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Cats” will now be released on Dec. 20, 2019.

The date is going to be a very busy week for moviegoers as it is also currently occupied by Star Wars: Episode IX. That release date was also originally occupied by another movie musical product “Wicked”, which is now awaiting its new release date to be announced.

Fans may already know that a lot of big names are attached to the film including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, and James Corden, though what roles they will be playing has not been confirmed.

Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Misérables, The Danish Girl) is helming for Universal’s Working Title Films, while screenwriter Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) is penning the script. “Cats” is set to feature choreography from Olivier Award winner Wayne McGregor.

Cats is one of the longest-running shows in the history of Broadway and is one of the most well-known musicals around the world. It first opened in 1981 in London’s West End and then the following year on Broadway’s Winter Garden Theater. The musical has won best musical awards at both Laurence Olivier and the Tony’s.
