Stanley Nelson’s Soulful Doc “We Want The Funk!” To Stream on PBS and YouTube

Distinctly rooted in joy, funk music reflected a post-Civil Rights Movement sensibility. “We Want the Funk!” examines the symbiotic relationship between the explosion of funk music out of the Midwest and the political and racial dynamics in 1970s inner-city America.

A syncopated and star-studded voyage through the journey of funk music, the film delves into the genre’s influence on contemporary music, fashion, and freedom of expression as well as its role in the rise of hip-hop. At the heart of the film are the first-hand stories, recollections, and experiences of the people who created and defined along with additional perspectives from Questlove and Thomas DeFrantz.

The film also features archival interviews with musical icons, including James Brown, Elton John, David Bowie, and more.

“We Want The Funk!” is set to premiere on April 08, 2025.

“Lords of the Fallen 2” Announces Composer Walter Mair

Walter Mair is known for his captivating scores ranging from epic orchestrations recorded with 80-piece choirs to intimate, small ensemble and hybrid electronic pieces that have graced a diverse mix of feature films, documentaries, television dramas, narrative-driven interactive entertainment and video games.

In 2023, Walter composed the score for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, which after being nominated for a BAFTA and an Ivor Novello Award is now up for 7 awards at this year’s GANG (Game Audio Network Guild) Awards at San Francisco’s Game Developers Conference. Cyndi Lauper Announces Final Leg Of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour Dates

cyndi-lauperCyndi Lauper has announced the final leg of her extensive year-long Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, with 25 North American tour dates for this summer. The cross-continent tour of outdoor amphitheaters and performing arts centers will begin July 15 and includes two nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on August 29 and 30, as well as Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY on July 19.

Lauper’s international Farewell Tour – her first major headlining run in a decade – kicked off in North America last October, and included her first time ever headlining (and selling out) Madison Square Garden. Lauper’s performances have earned tremendous raves from the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Variety, Vulture, USA Today, New York Post and many more, and surprise guests including Chaka Khan, Sam Smith, and Hayley Williams made special guest appearances along the way. The tour just visited the U.K. and Europe, and will head to Australia and Japan in April.
