The Black Panther’s Dora Milaje Meet The Marvel Universe in Wakanda Forever

Hugo and Nebula Award winner Nnedi Okorafor brings Wakanda’s most fearless warriors to Marvel

After their scene-stealing theatrical debut in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, Wakanda’s fiercest warriors are traveling outside of their country to fight new threats and new troubles, in an all-new story by award-winning science-fiction and fantasy author Nnedi Okorafor.

A Hugo and Nebula Award winner whose best-selling books include the Binti trilogy, Who Fears Death and Akaka Witch, Nnedi first brought her storytelling to Marvel in the digital comic series Black Panther: Long Live The King and in the Vernomverse anthology story “Blessing In Disguise.” With art by Alberto Jimenez Alqurquerque (Jean Grey), WAKANDA FOREVER: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 brings the Dora Milaje out of their vibranium city and into New York in the first of a three-part story when a Wakandan threat falls upon Manhattan – and they meet webslinger Peter Parker! The Dora Milaje’s adventures continue in WAKANDA FOREVER: X-MEN and WAKANDA FOREVER: AVENGERS in July and August. Learn more about WAKANDA FOREVER #1 and view exclusive character design sketches from Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque in Okorafor’s interview with Vogue Magazine.

“I’m super excited about writing this storyline. Powerful disciplined African women with futuristic spears who faced their shortcomings and changed a nation? Oh heck yeah, I’m so there,” shared Okorafor. “Fans of the Dora Milaje can look forward to seeing them out in the world beyond T’Challa and the Wakandan throne’s shadow. They’ll get to see the Dora Milaje come into their own, while teaming up with the unexpected.”

“As millions of moviegoers now know (and as comic readers already knew!), the Dora Milaje are the absolute coolest. And the rest of the Marvel Universe is about to learn this too when Okoye, Ayo and Aneka leave Wakanda on an adventure that will see them team up with Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Avengers,” teased series editor Wil Moss. “Nnedi Okorafor and a talented team of artists will be telling one Dora Milaje story that runs through these three separate WAKANDA FOREVER one-shots. We’re lucky to have Nnedi on board for this — she’s an incredible novelist, and her recent BLACK PANTHER: LONG LIVE THE KING digital series proved that she’s a great comic book writer too. She’s come up with a crazy-tough problem for the Dora Milaje to solve — but if anyone can, it’s these crazy-tough women.”

Walt Disney Studios
Motion Pictures

Marvel Studios has released the final trailer for “Avengers: Infinity War,” with just a few weeks from the film’s release in late April.

Intended to be the sequel to 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, the film will feature superheroes from Marvel Cinematic Universe all together to stop Thanos (played by Josh Brolin) from collecting the Infinity Stones. With the Avengers joining forces, its definitely not going to be easy.

“The entire time I knew him, he only ever had one goal. To wipe out half the universe,” Gomorra warns the Avengers in the trailer.

Marvel fans know this won’t be the last from MCU as Infinity will be followed quickly by Ant-Man and the Wasp in July, and Captain Marvel next Spring, not to mention Black Panther which is currently dominating the boxoffice.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Infinity War is set for release on April 23, 2018, with the sequel scheduled on May 3, 2019.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Ava DuVernay Set To Direct DC Film’s “The New Gods”

By Creative Media Times

Fresh off the release of this past weekend’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” the film’s director Ava DuVernay is already lining up another big-budget film. Variety is reporting today that DuVernay is set to direct the screen adaptation of “The New Gods” for Warner Bros.

New Gods was created and designed by Jack Kirby in 1971 and published by DC comics and will be part of DC Extended Universe, presumably joining the ranks of Aquaman, set for release later this year, and the sequel of Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman.

In the comics, New Gods are a fictional race from the twin planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. New Genesis is an utopian planet filled with unspoiled forests, mountains, and rivers and is ruled by the Highfather. On the other side is Apokolips, a ruined dystopia ruled by the tyrant and DC Comics supervillain Darkseid.

How the characters of New Gods will fit in to DCEU’s storylines remain to be seen, though one of Darkseid’s most powerful band of warriors Steppenwolf appeared in last November’s Justice League.

DuVernay made history after being the first black woman to direct a $100 million budgeted film, that is of course “A Wrinkle In Time.” Released this weekend, the science fantasy adventure film features an all-star cast including Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine. The film grossed $42.2 million this past weekend. DuVernay previously directed Selma, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture in 2015.

First Trailer For “Fantastic Beasts 2” Unveiled

By Creative Media Times

Warner Bros. Pictures

The second installment in the Fantastic Beasts film series, “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” arrives later this year. Today, fans get to catch a glimpse of what’s in store for them as Warner Bros. releases its first trailer.

Also released today is the poster for the highly anticipate film, showcasing its leads Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and new addition to the series Jude Law as young Albus Dumbledore.

The action filled trailer reveals that Dumbledore is certainly a major player in the film, which looks to broaden the story line of the original Beasts film as well as an overall darker tone. The story supposedly takes place in UK and Paris, a departure from the original’s 1920s American setting.

Gillert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) also appears briefly in the trailer. There’s not a lot of details about Grindelwald here, but we all remember that the powerful dark wizard was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) at the end of first film, and there is no question he is making good on his evil threats.

David Yates is back for directing duties, with a screenplay by J.K. Rowling. The film is produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. James Newton Howard is also returning to compose the film’s music.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is set to be released Nov. 16, 2018.

Here is part of the film’s premise:

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

First Look At Benedict Cumberbatch “Dr. Seuss’ the Grinch”

By Creative Media Times

Universal Pictures

The grouchy creature wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and is ready to ruin everyone’s Christmas in Illumination Entertainment’s latest animated film “The Grinch.” The studio released the film’s first trailer Thursday.

Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing the green furry Grinch, who is hatching a sinister scheme in Whoville as residents plan their annual holiday celebration.

In the trailer we see the Grinch (Cumberbatch) bothered by his alarm clock incessantly playing the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, because well, its from Illumination’s own blockbuster hit “Despicable Me 2” and it works perfectly here.

“Today we will do mean things and we will do them in style,” the misanthrope tells his unloved but loyal companion dog, Max. And from there he was up to no good, breaking stuff and vomiting on a pickle jar in a grocery store among others.

Directed by Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets) and Scott Mosier and written by Michael LeSieur, the film is an animated revival based on the 1957 classic children’s story by Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”.

The story was previously adapted twice, on an animated TV film in 1966 with Boris Karloff voicing the Grinch, and again in a full-length feature hit film in 2000 by Ron Howard starring Jim Carrey.

“The Grinch” is set to open on Nov. 9, 2018.
