‘Gotham’ Ratings Surge For Fox On Multi-Platform Viewing

by Dominic Patten

The realities of the 21st century television landscape have served a story first set in the late 1930 very very well. A month after its premiere, Fox’s freshman Gotham has hit a total multi-platform audience of 22.2 million, according to the network. Not only is that a pretty impressive number for the WBTV produced world of Batman backstory but it is actually a 168% life over the Live + Same Day audience of 8.3 million that the series got for its 8 PM September 22 debut.

Those Live + SD numbers were Fox’s best fall drama debut in since 2000 and Gotham hit an 18-49 record for Live + 7 lift when those results came in. However, perhaps more telling of how audiences are really watching content nowadays is the fact that 5 million of that 22.2 million audience came from non-linear viewing.

Apple has removed all Bose products from its stores

A long retail relationship has turned sour

By Chris Welch

You can’t buy Bose products from Apple’s online store anymore. As spotted by 9to5Mac, headphones from Bose’s QuietComfort series and speakers including the SoundLink Mini and SoundLink III have completely vanished from Apple’s web storefront. A search for “Bose” now points you to refurbished Apple routers and other non-related items. Presumably Bose’s lineup will soon make an exit from retail stores, if products haven’t been pulled down from shelves already.

PlayStation 4 sales hit 10M in blow to Microsoft’s Xbox

By Arjun Kharpal

Sony has sold over 10 million PlayStation 4 (PS4) devices, the company said on Tuesday, landing a major blow to console rival Microsoft’s Xbox One.

Jim Ryan, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO, made the announcement at major gaming conference Gamescom in Cologne, amid a battle for dominance between consoles and mobile gaming.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Xbox One has sold around half of that at 5 million after the technology giant made an error with its strategy, according to analysts.

Microsoft has had an uphill struggle since it released its next generation games console to 13 markets including the U.K and U.S. in November 2013. The Xbox One was around $100 more expensive than the PS4 because it was bundled with Kinect, a camera that allows users to play interactive games.

Microsoft To Shut Down Xbox Entertainment Studios

By NELLIE ANDREEVA

This morning’s announcement by Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella of one of the largest layoffs in tech history, a plan to cut 18,000 jobs, triggered a whirlwind of speculation about the future of the fledgling Xbox Entertainment Studios. In a memo, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s Xbox division and Microsoft Studios, just confirmed that the company will close the Entertainment Studios in the coming months.

Nancy Tellem, Jordan Levin and some of the XES team will stay on for some time to shepherd original programming already in production, including the documentary series about technology Signal to Noise and the Halo game franchise extensions, digital feature Halo: Nightfall and the Halo TV series, which will continue as planned with Microsoft’s 343 Industries and Amblin. Xbox also will continue to support and deliver interactive sports content like ‘NFL on Xbox.’ XBox’s app partnerships are not impacted.

Samsung’s Latest Galaxy Phone Is Built Like A Tank

Steve Kovach

You carry your smartphone with you just about everywhere, so there’s a decent expectation over its two-year life that you’ll drop it. Get it wet. Dribble some food on it.

Samsung’s answer to those everyday problems is the Galaxy S5 Active, a new smartphone that takes the company’s flagship Galaxy S5 phone and wraps it in a sturdy shell built to withstand drops, dings, spills, and scratches. It’s also water resistant and dustproof, meaning you can dunk it in shallow water for a few minutes and everything will still work perfectly.
