After a gripping first season that even bested the debut season of the Game of Thrones, in terms of ratings, creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s left fans in awe as the show went out with a bang to cap off an incredible first season that left fans wishing for much more. Now as fans wait for the second season, which will premiere in 2018, there is a lot of speculation about which direction the show will go in, who will be back, and where will it be located.
Recently, Nolan stated the show would be leaving the westworld park behind, and instead be moving onto other parks within the show’s universe,“So we said when we started working on the series that we wanted to be ambitious. We wanted each season to increase in that ambition and in the scope of the show.”
Joy also offers input on the future of the show and what kind of themes to expect in season two, “the safety is off,” so for characters like Dolores and other hosts, they won’t be the painfully limited robots that die horrifically each episode. Instead fans can anticipate the hosts to be in the driver’s seat, and that can play out in any number of ways.

Simply put, expect the unexpected, because that seems to be the most consistent theme throughout the first season. Other than the characters who didn’t openly die in the first season, it will be hard to tell who will be returning from the grave next year, or even if some of the stories are already over.
Most of the characters who still have a place in the plot of the show will be returning for season two, but Nolan refused to admit if Anthony Hopkins will be returning for the second season, he bested his interviewer by replying with a very general statement, “I think with this show, you want to assume nothing.” Clearly Nolan and Joy still have a few tricks up their sleeves and don’t want to risk spoiling the show, which is understandable, but only fans the flames of anticipation towards season two. However there are some loose ends, Jimmi Simpson, who plays William, is uncertain about his return leaving fans to wonder if his part in this epic tale is over. But fans can absolutely expect Angela, played by Talulah Riley, to be back in the second season with much more to offer.
As fans wait until 2018 for the second season, these minor accumulations of returning cast members and the plot details that manage to slip out the crevices of HBO, should help keep the anticipation alive.
