Its been nearly 40 years ago since moviegoers saw Danny Torrance and his psychic powers called “the shining” in the 1980 film adaptation of the Steven King novel of the same name.

“Doctor Sleep” follows Danny (played by Ewan McGregor) now an adult, an alcoholic and battling the childhood trauma that he experienced with his family in the Overlook Hotel. This week, Warner Bros. unveiled the film’s creepy trailer, giving audiences a first look at Danny since the events in the hotel.

Written and directed by Mike Flanagan, who directed the highly underrated Oculus from 2013 and the hit Netflix series “The Haunting of the Hill House.”

Fans should also recognize the “The Shining” theme featured in the trailer, which suggests that the sequel may indeed exist within the world of original King novel and Stanley Kubrick’s classic film.

The film co-stars Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and child actress Kyliegh Curran. “Doctor Sleep” is set to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on November 8, 2019.
