Fashion X Austin 2016 Highlights

Now on it’s 8th year, Austin Fashion Week has become the largest fashion event in Texas and one of the most highly acclaimed in the Southern United States. This year’s shows lived up to expectations with fabulous collections, nightly red carpet and bars featuring Chloe Wine Collection.

Fashion X Austin 2016 kicked off on Friday, April 15, 2016 and closed on Saturday, April 23 at JW Marriott, Downtown Austin. Owned by the producers of Austin Fashion Week, FXA aims to support the local Austin, TX fashion.

Here are some of fashion highlights from the recently concluded Fashion X Austin 2016, featuring designs from Melissa Fleis, Michelel Lesniak, Amanda Valentine, Jeffrey Sebelia and Korto Momolu, as well as local designers Ross Bennett, Sout Sports and young up and comer This Is Sloane.

Music great Prince dies at 57

Prince, one of the bestselling pop artists of all time, died Thursday morning in his home recording studio in Chanhassen, Minn., according to his publicist.

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” his publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, said in a statement. “There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.”

Police and EMTs responded to a 911 call at his Paisley Park studio Thursday. Sheriffs in Chanhassen, Minnesota, confirmed that there was one fatality.

Prince was briefly hospitalized last week for what representatives at the time said was a flu.

Born June 7, 1958, Prince Rogers Nelson, was one of the most successful and prolific performers of all time. Over his career, Prince sold more than 100 million albums, and won seven Grammy Awards. He also had success as a songwriter for other musicians, writing hits like “Nothing Compares 2 U” for Sinead O’Connor, “Manic Monday” for The Bangles, and “I Feel For You,” for Chaka Khan.

James Cameron confirms he is making four Avatar sequels

We’d already heard rumors that James Cameron had found three sequels a little limiting for his Avatar follow-ups, and on stage at CinemaCon today he made it official. The filmmaker announced that no less than four new sequels to his 3D epic are in the works, with the first hitting theaters in 2018.

The filmmaker discussed the many ways in which he is expanding the world — a theme park with Disney in in the works, and his company has signed a deal with Dark Horse Comics for graphic novel spin-offs — but the movies themselves are obviously the biggest component.

The Avatar sequels have been a moving target since he first announced he was working on them, and Cameron has since assembled what amounts to a screenwriting superteam to break the story for the various films. As it stands, the second film in the series will be coming out in the holiday season of 2018, with the subsequent films arriving in 2020, 2022, and 2023.

Avicii Talks Illness, Fame and Retiring at Age 26

Avicii looks tired. Tired, but happy.

The Swedish electronic dance music superstar is en route from Bahrain, where he was the headline act for Bahrain Grand Prix concert series, stopping over for a few hours in Cannes before heading out for the final stretch of what, if the 26-year-old DJ is to be believed, will be his final tour.

Last week, Avicii, who also goes by his given name, Tim Bergling, shocked his millions-strong global fan base when he announced his retirement from live touring in an emotional letter he posted on his website.

Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, J. Cole Top Outside Lands 2016 Lineup

Nine years after they helped kick off the inaugural edition, Radiohead will return to San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Park to headline the 2016 edition of the Outside Lands Festival. Thom Yorke and company will be joined by an all-star roster of other headliners including the reunited LCD Soundsystem, Lionel Richie, J. Cole, Lana Del Rey, Duran Duran and Zedd. Additionally, Outside Lands 2016 will boast the first-ever live festival performance of The Muppets’ Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

The three-day fest (Aug. 5-7), which mixes gourmet food and wine with amazing music, will also host Air, Sufjan Stevens, Ryan Adams, Beach House, Halsey, Grimes, Jason Isbell, The Last Shadow Puppets, Miike Snow, Kehlani and the Claypool Lennon Delirium.

Major Lazer, Chance the Rapper, Miguel, Big Grams (Big Boi + Phantogram), Third Eye Blind, Griz, Brandi Carlile, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Foals, Lord Huron, St. Lucia and Vince Staples will also perform.

Young Han Solo Will Probably Be Played By One Of These 4 Actors

And then there were four. When we first heard about the casting search for the young version of Han Solo for the character’s upcoming standalone Star Wars film, it sounded like every living human between 20 and 35 was being considered. Then we heard the shortlist had been whittled down to about a dozen names. While the decision hasn’t quite been made yet, the shortlist has reportedly become even shorter.

While the exact size of the shortlist is unclear, according to The Hollywood Reporter, at least four actors were in London last week to test for the role. While three of the young performers have been on our radar previously, one appears to be an entirely new name attached to the intergalactic smuggler. Xbox One meets PS4? Microsoft to enable cross-platform multiplayer gaming with other consoles

If you’re big into multiplayer gaming, you need to buy the same console as your friends to play together. But a new move by Microsoft may end that.

In a note to independent developers today, ID@Xbox director Chris Charla announced that the company is enabling developers to support cross-network multiplayer gaming.

He explains, “This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.”

New York Fashion Week: Couture

Couture New York Fashion Week began on Friday, February 12 and runs through February. All of the shows were held on Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, Broadway, NY.

The 23rd Season of Couture Fashion Week featured collections from Dauphine of France, Anniesa Hasibuan, Vintage Couture by Vanny Tousignant, Ely Cortrreal and Andres Aquino, and performances from Mia Wallace and Serena Bateman.

Couture Fashion Week was founded in 2005 by Andres Aquino and also presents a series of couture and luxury fashion shows in New York City, Cannes and other selected cities.

Screen Actors Guild Awards 2016: ‘Spotlight’ Cast Takes Top Prize

Journalism drama “Spotlight” won the SAG ensemble cast award in a night that was dominated by a diverse roster of winners.

“Spotlight” won the cast award over “Beasts of No Nation,” “The Big Short,” “Straight Outta Compton” and “Trumbo.”

Solidifying his front-runner status, Leonardo DiCaprio has won the SAG Award for Best Actor for “The Revenant” for his role as a fur trapper bent on revenge. Brie Larson won Best Actress for her role as a tormented mother in “Room.”
