By Creative Media Times

The Shape of Water. (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

Guillermo del Toro’s dark fantasy drama film “The Shape of Water” might have lost the grand prize at the Golden Globe Awards this past weekend, but today it led the nominations for the British Academy Film Awards, the organization announced Tuesday.

The Shape of Water” received 12 nominations including best picture, best director for del Toro, and leading actress for the film’s star Sally Hawkins. Currently playing in theaters, the film has received near universal acclaim from critics.

More commonly known as the BAFTAs, it is one of the strongest bellwether for the Oscars due mostly to an overlap between the voters on both organizations.

The BAFTAs will be held on February 18, two weeks before the Oscars, at the Royal Albert Hall in London and will be hosted by British actress and activist Joanna Lumley. She’s taking over actor Stephen Fry who stepped down after 12 years of hosting the BAFTA ceremonies.

Producers Guild Awards Announced Nominees

By Creative Media Times

producersguild.org

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has announced nominations for the 29th Annual Producers Guild Awards on Friday.

This year, however, 11 films are vying for The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, which means there was a tie during the voting process.

Those in contention include The Big Sick,” “Call Me by Your Name,” “Dunkirk,” “Get Out,” “I, Tonya,” “Lady Bird,” “Molly’s Game,” “The Post,” “The Shape of Water,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” and “Wonder Woman”.

Comprised of roughly 7,500 members, PGA is historically a good Oscar bellwether: in the last 10 years, the Zanuck award winner matched with that of the Academy Award best picture, disagreeing just the last two years when La La Land (2016) and The Big Short (2015) won the PGA while the Oscars went to Moonlight in 2016 and Spotlight the prior year.

This bodes well for “The Shape of Water,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” and “The Post” which seem to emerged as front-runners during the awards season. But the list is not without any surprises as one of the year’s biggest boxoffice hits, “Wonder Woman” also made the cut.

The winner will be announced during the Producers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.

By Creative Media Times

Warner Bros. Pictures

After unveiling a sensational, crowd-pleasing teaser for it science fiction adventure film “Ready Player One” at last summer’s Comic-Con, Warner Bros. has now released an exciting new trailer for the film, full of pop-culture references and some trademark Spielberg-visuals galore.

The trailer, like the novel it is based on, featured plenty of our favorite characters crammed into its short running time, from King Kong to Harley Quinn, to Child’s Play‘s Chucky and Gundam (and many other characters that may require multiple viewings to identify) as our protagonist Wade Watts (played by Tye Sheridan) enter the virtual-reality world of “OASIS.”

Based on Ernest Cline’s novel of the same name and directed by Steven Spielberg, the trailer is visually stunning and futuristic, yet still retro, with Van Halen’s 80’s anthemic track “Jump” playing during the second half, providing some feel-good, nostalgic energy.

“Ready Player One” arrives in theaters on March 30, 2018.

Here is Ready Player One’s official synopsis:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
