American Gothic Press Reveals Ettinger and Walker’s ‘NICE’, Three Other Titles at Famous Monsters Comic-Con Panel

The publishing division of Famous Monsters will debut Echo Lake’s crime thriller in December, followed by several Silver Scream Festival winners — WHISPER IN THE WOODS, BLACK SUNDAY, and HAG — in early 2019.

Judging by the packed house at Comic-Con’s “Sixty Years of Famous Monsters” panel on Friday afternoon, the classic horror brand is alive and well as it marches into new partnerships that will expand its audience and hit your local comic shop.

The panel, consisting of Famous Monsters and AGP Publisher Philip Kim, Famous Monsters and AGP Editor Holly Interlandi, special effects artist and FACE OFF star Walter Welsh, NICE creators Dagen Walker and Joseph Ettinger, actor/director John Terlesky, artist Marc Rene, and artist Tula Lotay, ran for a tight fifty minutes of rapid fire questioning from moderators Aaron McLane and Matt Corrigan of the Launchpad Podcast. Topics included the 2018 annual magazine publication, special effects makeups and their legacy, and several comic book announcements — including, of course, assassin sensation NICE, which came to American Gothic Press by way of collaboration with Echo Lake Entertainment.

The good-natured Walker and Ettinger conceived of NICE as a kind of hipster assassin mystery. “It’s based on real people we know,” they said, reflecting ironically on their own fashion and choices of facial hair. When asked what in particular influenced his storytelling, Ettinger simply quipped, “Drinking.”

The Prisoner “Shattered Visage” To Be Published By Titan

Cult classic THE PRISONER has been captivating audiences and firing imaginations since it first aired in the UK in 1967 and in the US the following year. Now fans can go even deeper into The Village with this official graphic novel sequel set twenty years after the events of the iconic TV series.

Originally published in 1988, SHATTERED VISAGE tells the story of former secret agent Alice Drake, whose round-the-world solo voyage is interrupted when she is accidentally shipwrecked and washes up on the shores of The Village. There she encounters Number Six, finds out what has become of Number Two, and discovers the true purpose of The Village.

Titan Comics, a licensee of ITV Studios Global Entertainment, are delighted to release this long out-of-print classic with new material, including character sketches and notes from writer/artist Dean Motter . Fans can finally get their hands on the unmissable next chapter in THE PRISONER saga for the first time in years.

Writer/Artist Dean Motter says:

“When I was approached to do a series based on The Prisoner, I leapt at the chance. It was one of my favourite TV shows when it first aired … My thinking turned to doing it as a post-modernist fable – one that took place in the current era, but that would re-open the questions from the original saga.

However, doing the research was going to take more resources than I had – so I drafted my friend and colleague Mark Askwith to help me with that aspect of the project. It became a collaboration almost instantly. I am honoured to see it re-presented as part of Titan’s ongoing celebration of The Prisoner’s ongoing 50th anniversary.”

SDCC 2018: Sony’s “Venom” Villain Revealed At Comic-Con

By Creative Media Times

Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, and director Ruben Fleischer were at SDCC on Friday where lucky fans had a chance to see the latest footage from Venom with a big reveal of a villain at the end: Riot, another symbiote who is controlling inventor Carlton Drake, played by Ahmed.

In his Comic-con debut, Hardy admits to being nervous being on the SDCC stage, though very excited about the film. “Venom by far, for me, I don’t want to upset anyone, is the coolest Marvel superhero there is. I just like the way he looks,” Hardy says about the character that appealed to him, adding: “my son is a massive Venom fan, and he was a very strong influence on why I should play Venom specifically.”

Fleischer describes that Venom is a “much grittier, grounded, complicated character and more violent,” distinguishing the film from other Marvel characters. “Unlike other superhero movies, there’s no heroes in this movie. Its full of copmlicated and complex characters.”

The trailer prominently featured Drake and his symbiotes experiments. It also showed Venom’s head stretching out of Eddie’s body so the two can have a conversation as well as Venom’s ability to form axes out of his hands. Then towards the end, the footage reveals Drake as Riot and then showed him with Venom in an epic fight.

In the comics, Venom’s character is a sentient alien symbiote which needs a human host to survive, eventually giving the host enhanced powers. Eddie Brock is the journalist who comes in contact and bonded with the alien and become Venom, who is both vengeful and a hero to those he deems innocent.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad), “Venom” is a spin-off from the Spider-Man movie franchise, and is the first in Sony’s Marvel Universe, though in a recent interview, film producer and president of Marvle Studios Kevin Feige stated that the film will not be part of Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Venom” is set for release on October 5.

“Assassination Nation” Debuts Trailer At Comic-Con

By Creative Media Times

The cast of the last comedy crime film Bill Skarsgard, Hari Nef, Suki Waterhouse, director Sam Levinson as well as Joe Russo were at Comic-Con International at the San Diego Convention Center on Thursday to talk about the controversial and provocative film, and present an exclusive footage.

The film was acquired by Marvel directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO banner who partnered with NEON for distribution rights to the film shortly after its Sunday Film Fest world premiere earlier this year.

The film is about what happens when an anonymous hacker begins to terrorize a small town of Salem by releasing the most private and personal information; all privacy is destroyed and lives are ruined as deadly secrets are exposed. As gossip turns to hysteria and hysteria leads to violence, people turn on each other. Salem high school senior Lily and her pals band together in order to survive.

“Imagine if the comment section came alive and tried to kill everyone you know and love. That’s it in a nutshell,” the film’s writer and director Sam Levinson (son of Oscar winning director Barry Levinson) summing up the film candidly.

“But nobody is safe in this movie. Everybody is getting dragged,” says Hari Nef. “My character, for instance, one second she’s espousing these high-minded, social justice warrior beliefs, and then the next minute she’s tearing down some other guy using homophobic slurs. There’s no infallible political message to this, because there’s no infallible political message in America. Nobody’s listening to one another. I think its important.”

“Assassination Nation” is scheduled for release on September 21, 2018, by NEON and AGBO. Watch the trailer below.

“Breaking Bad” Cast Reunite At SDCC 2018

By Creative Media Times

“I love Jesse, I love that guy so much, I miss him!” Paul said of his Jesse Pinkman, cooking partner and former student to Bryan Cranston’s Walter White during a 10th anniversary panel for “Breaking Bad” at Thursday’s Comic-con.

It was ten years ago that audiences were introduced to the two characters which went on to become one of the biggest pop culture icons in TV history.

And on Thursday, that chemistry between the two and the whole cast is as fresh and palpable as if time has not passed since. And there’s added bonus of course of Aaron Paul bringing his adorable baby to the panel.

Fans were understandably ecstatic to see the cast in panel to mark the neo-western crime television series’ 10th anniversay, which included Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Giancarlo Esposito, Bob Odenkirk, Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte and show creator Vince Gilligan.

Set and filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico andran from January 20, 2008 through September 29, 2013 on AMC, the series was a huge hit and widely regarded as one of the bet ever.

And even after the show has ended, the show’s spirit is kept alive by “Better Call Saul”, a prequel which explodes that same world. In fact, just before this panel was the cast and creators of ‘Saul’ which discussed Season 4 and answer fan questions, and which also received a very warm reception.

“You will not see Walt or Jesse in Season 4,” Gilligan said, referring to fan speculation about the characters appearing in Better Call Saul, which is set to premiere August 6 on AMC. “I would suspect we would be sorely remiss if these characters didn’t appear on this show before it ended.”

“There’s definitely a chance Bob Odenkirk is going to be on ‘Better Call Saul,’” Cranston joked.

“Glass” Trailer Teases

By Creative Media Times

Universal Pictures

A new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s much-anticipated “Glass” is about to debut this weekend during San Diego Comic-Con, and today Universal released a teaser to that trailer, something that’s become pretty common to major upcoming studio films.

The teaser features the voice of James McAvoy’s The Beast, the character in last year’s blockbuster “Split” who has multiple personalities over a shattering glass.

The superhero horror-thriller is supposed to be the third installment in Shyamalan’s series following “Unbreakable” (2000) and “Split.” The film brings together the cast of Unbreakable such as Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Spencer Treat Clark, and Charlayne Woodard with that of Split including McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy. Sarah Paulson is also joining the film.

“Glass” is set for released on January 18, 2019. While we await for the full trailer, here is the film’s partial synopsis:

Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals—2000’s Unbreakable, from Touchstone, and 2016’s Split, from Universal—in one explosive, all-new comic-book thriller: Glass.

From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.
