By Creative Media Times

Fox Searchlight Pictures

A. A. Milne finds his inspiration through his young son Christopher Robin Milne for his fictional anthropomorphic teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh in the new trailer of Fox Searchlight’s “Goodbye Christopher Robin”.

Directed by Simon Curtis of My Week With Marilyn, “Goodbye Christopher Robin” stars
Domhnall Gleeson as the man who created the teddy bear character A. A. Milne, while Will Tilston is his son Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh. “I’d really like if you wrote a book for me. I’d definitely read it,” Christopher Robin says in the trailer.

Also in the film are Margot Robbie as A. A. Milne’s wife Daphne de Sélincourt, Kelly Macdonald as Christopher Robin’s nanny Olive, Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Mary Brown, and Alex Lawther as the older Christopher Robin.

The film shows the origin of the Pooh Bear from an author who was coping with his post-traumatic stress following his return from World War I. After the war there was so much sadness. Then ‘Winnie the Pooh’ came along,” says Ribin’s nanny Olive.

Here is the film’s official synopsis:
GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children’s author A. A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) and his son Christopher Robin (Will TIlston), whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh. Along with his mother Daphne (Margot Robbie), and his nanny Olive (Kelly Macdonald), Christopher Robin and his family are swept up in the international success of the books; the enchanting tales bringing hope and comfort to England after the First World War. But with the eyes of the world on Christopher Robin, what will the cost be to the family?

“Goodbye Christopher Robin” will be in select theaters on October 13th, 2017, with expansions planned in the succeeding weeks.

“Karate Kid” TV Sequel Coming To YouTube Red

By Creative Media Times

Columbia Pictures

The original cast of the “Karate Kid” franchise is back, this time in a 10-episode half-hour comedy currently titled “Cobra Kai”, via streaming subscription service YouTube Red. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series premieres in 2018.

YouTube Red outbid streaming giants Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and AMC for the series. On Friday, Susanne Daniels, global head of content for YouTube also announced that the company is ““targeting an 18-49 audience”, indicating the company’s expansion beyond its millennial core users and its growing focus for original content.

The series will reunite original stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka and will be set 30 years after the events of the 1984 “The Karate Kid”. That film launched the career of Macchio, who played the lead Daniel LaRusso in two more sequels until the series was revamped in 1994. Zabka appeared in the original as Johnny Lawrence, the main antagonist to the title character.

Macchio and Zabka will co-executive produce the series along with duo Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who will write the script with Josh Heald. Hurwitz and Schlossberg will direct most of the series.

Ron Howard Reveals New R2 Unit In “Han Solo”

By Creative Media Times

Ron Howard’s latest tweet introduces us to a new R2 unit in the upcoming untitled “Han Solo” movie. And though it seems the droids aren’t easy to work with, it’s good to know that he’s having a great time. But more importantly, it also appears the production is back on track.

The Academy Award-winning director shared the photo, along with the caption: “These droids can be so damn intractable. But we’ll go until we get it right!”

Clearly the gold and white look is new, but its still early to tell how much work the production is crafting. But this bit of information is enough to get us excited, with actor’s roles, plot points and production info on lockdown.

These robots are a huge part in all of Star Wars films; R2-D2 for example has supported Padmé Amidala, Leia Organa, Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi in many of their adventures, so this is certainly exciting development for fans.

Ron Howard joined the project last June after original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were reportedly fired due to “creative differences.”

Focusing on the adventures of Han Solo, and stars lden Ehrenreich in the title role, “Han Solo” is currently scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.

Album Review: Lust For Life

Eric Gasa

Polydor
Interscope

“Lust for life” has always been a phrase with big shoes to fill. It’s the title of the iconic, larger than life song by Iggy Pop, a story about lusting, drugs, and living on the edge, as well as the sunshine-y jangle of the 2009 single by the band Girls. The latter sings plenty about lusting as well— “Oh, I wish I had a boyfriend, I wish I had a loving man in my life…Maybe then I would’ve turned out right.”

The same titled song by Lana Del Rey, though not as fun or iconic as the other songs listed, falls somewhere in the middle. It’s not a loathsome, sunbaked rocker, or even a love story really; it’s a sex-fueled, pop-centric kiss off.

The cover of Lana Del Rey’s newest album, Lust For Life betrays her persona all too often. On Lust For Life, the All-American sweetheart smiling in front of the pickup truck with the flowers in her hair chants for The Weeknd to take off his clothes with lusty abandon.
“Climb up the H of the Hollywood sign, yeah,” Del Rey sings, “In these stolen moments the world is mine.”

It’s a bit of an ironic shtick but one that has stuck all along for Elizabeth Grant, who’s made a career as America’s pop idol next door. She lives in a world ruled by fast cars and James Dean types crossed with hip-hop verses and Mountain Dew.

The aesthetic is no different on Lust For Life which finds Del Rey doing what she does best; being drab, dramatic, and suave as hell.

First Look At Domino in “Deadpool 2”

By Creative Media Times

Deadpool 2
20th Century Fox

Ryan Reynolds today shared on twitter a first look of Zazie Beetz as Domino in Deadpool 2.

The image recalls Ryan Reynold’s first photo as Deadpool, with the character lying near a fireplace, only here Domino is lying on a deflated Deadpool suit instead of a bear rug. “Some people just know how to work a red carpet,” Reynolds tweeted along with the photo.

This makes it a parody of a parody, as Ryan Reynolds’ original photo itself is a hilarious nod to a famous 1972 Cosmopolitan photo of Reynolds…Burt Reynolds that is.

Domino is a mercenary mutant with the ability to manipulate luck through telekinetics. She is also a member of the mutant team X-Force, and a love interest of Cable, also appearing in the movie as played by Josh Brolin. Well, in case you don’t know, Brolin himself has recently been sharing his epic transformation on Instagram.

Directed by David Leitch, from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Deadpool 2 also stars Morena Baccarin, T. J. Miller, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand and Jack Kesy.

Deadpool 2 has been filming in Vancouver and is set for release in theater on next year’s summer on June 1st, 2018.

Book Review: The Shadow Land

By Elizabeth Walker

If you don’t know a lot about the history of post-war Eastern Europe, prepare to be drawn in. Elizabeth Kostova’s newest novel is set in Bulgaria, both in the forties/fifties and new millennium. The Shadow Land tells two stories in parallel – one about a violinist named Stoyan Lazarov, another about a recent college graduate – and interweaves them in a masterful tale of grief, mystery, and adventure.

Alexandra is in her early twenties and has lived the past decade in the shadow of her brother’s untimely death. In attempt to both escape Jack’s memory and yet also become closer to it, she chooses to teach English in Bulgaria. On her first day in this foreign land, she crosses paths with a family en route to bury the ashes of Stoyan Lazarov. When Alexandra mistakenly picks up the ashes, she becomes a player in Stoyan’s fascinating story. She makes friends with Bobby, a philosopher poet, and together they travel across the country trying to unravel the intricacies of Stoyan Lazarov’s life and return the ashes to the family.

Most readers will be familiar with the horrific stories of Hitler’s concentration camps, but many remain oblivious to the violence inflicted on political prisoners under other administrations. The Shadow Land gives gruesome depictions of the pain and disease these people experience often based only on trumped-up charges. The fact that these atrocities are experienced by a gifted musician only serve to make them more ghastly.

The Shadow Land does drag at times. The way Kostova describes Alexandra’s grief does not seem wholly believable, and it is easy to be exhausted by the cyclic, repetitive nature of Alexandra and Bobby’s search for the Lazarov family. Essentially they spend hundreds of pages going to a place, not finding the Lazarovs, and going somewhere else.

That said, Kostova has obviously painstakingly researched her setting and has woven an intricate mystery comparable to her debut novel, The Historian. This makes the reader want to stick with The Shadow Land, despite its length, less to find out what happens to Alexandra than to the gifted musician and the family who want to offer him eternal peace.
