LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – Warner Bros.’ take on the “Godzilla” saga will be released May 16, 2014, the company said Thursday.
The film is expected to be presented in 3D.
A press release issued by Warner Bros. and Legendary said that the project, which falls under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros., “will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner.”
Gareth Edwards, who directed the 2010 sci-fi drama “Monsters,” will direct the project, with a screenplay from David Callaham (“The Expendables”), David S. Goyer (the “Dark Knight” trilogy) and Max Borenstein (who co-wrote the upcoming Jeff Bridges adventure fantasy “The Seventh Son”).
Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce, along with Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher will serve as executive producers alongside Doug Davison, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.
Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing worldwide, except for Japan, where Toho Co., Ltd.. will handle distribution.
