The sixth installment of the highly successful series will be helmed by Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation directory Christopher McQuarrie, who has become Cruise’s reliable go-to guy in recent years.

The casting and announcement happened on Instagram with Cavill and McQuarrie responding to each other’s posts about working together, although the deal was most likely done prior to this and they might just be having a laugh at out expense. McQuarrie posted: “Say, @henrycavill. Had a thought. Curious if you’re interested in a role in the 6th installment of Mission: Impossible. No pressure.” Cavill then replied: “How can I say no to a man with such perfect hair.”

Cruise and McQuarrie are producers of the Mission: Impossible 6, alongside Don Granger, J.J. Abrams and Skydance Production’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg.

Meanwhile, back at the DCCU, Cavill seem to be teasing about Green Lantern’s cameo appearance in November’s Justice League. The actor posted an image of himself in instagram, adding:

“Just working towards improvement by pushing hard enough to elicit change. Nothing funny to post here, it’s deadly serious because I’ve got to make sure that I’m bigger than Green Lantern….Wait whaaat?”

Mission: Impossible 6 opens in theaters July 27, 2018.
