Paramount brought the cast and crew of “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” into Comic-Con 2022, which kicked off the major studio panels at Hall H today, Thursday July 21, 2022.
The studio also debuted the first trailer, as well as a couple of clips for the upcoming role-playing, fantasy action-adventure comedy film which is co-written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.
The duo, who previously directed Game Night, were on the SDCC stage along with producer Jeremy Latcham. “You are literally the first people to see all this,” said Daley.
“Both of us have a long history with DnD, we should start with that,” Goldstein said. “I played 1st edition with my brother as a kid, and no matter what I did, my brother would kill me off in the first half. I would always end up in a gelatinous cube.”
They were later joined by the main cast Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page, Sophia Lillis and Hugh Grant who kept everyone laughing throughout the panel discussion. When asked what his spirit animal would be, Grabt joked, “I suppose I’m a tiger. It’s always been my nickname in the bedroom.”
Paramount Pictures also brought plenty of Dungeons & Dragons with a Tavern Experience outside the convention center, where visitors will get a 20-minute immersive experience. “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” is based on the tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons.
Also revealed during the panel was that Legacy Effects will be doing the creatures in the film. This is also the same team behind Grogu on “The Mandalorian.”
Here’s the film’s description:
“A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.”
“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” is set for release on March 3, 2023.
