Gorillaz revive their status with new album Humanz

As announced on their Instagram, on April 28th, 2017, virtual band Gorillaz will be releasing their latest album, Humanz. Fans have long awaited the band’s next release since their last album, The Fall in 2010.

Gorillaz uses the visual aspect just as much as the musical to convey their message. The virtual band consists of, 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs, and Noodle. These characters portray the story of the music . Fans of Gorillaz have deeply invested not only in the creators, but the fic-tional, animated characters who make up the band.

The band interacts with their audience and fans through these visuals of an animated band, and extends this relationship through their social media pages and website. It’s this engagement with the fans that has helped Gorillaz gain popularity over the years. Behind the music and visuals are Damon Albarn, musician, and Jamie Hewlett, illustrator.

Coachella 2017 Review: Week 1

The Lemon twigs are not old enough to be in the beer gardens Coachella, but someone should get sneaking what they want for their gift for serving the rock and roll retro-tastic with pop buttons Baroque and glam on Friday that the festival started.

Todd Rundgren joined them for their final number at the Gobi tent be aligned with respect to the Brian and Michael D’Addario artists who were inspired by the Rundgren to the Ramones, Paul McCartney to Queen.

In songs like “These words” and “Haroomata” the brothers and two other band mates – high school friends in Long Island, New York – showed soft harmonies, crunchy riffs and compositions developed as three minutes pop symphony.

Lady Gaga in ‘A Star Is Born’: First Look

It seems like the remake of A Star Is Born is finally moving forward. Lady Gaga herself, who’s making her first turn as a leading lady, announced in instagram and posted the first look to her role (see image right). According to Deadline, Gaga will also be credited by her real name, Stefani Germanotta.

During the weekend, Gaga headlined Saturday night’s Coachella, during which portions of the film where shot. This comes after an invitation for Gaga’s fans to “be in the audience as Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga films scenes on the actual Coachella stages,” which was also tweeted by the studio Warner Bros.

Cooper plays Jackson Maine, a country music star who is on the brink of decline when he discovers a talented unknown named Ally (Germanotta). Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg’s classic record “Deep Cover” celebrates 25th anniversary

There are twenty-five years, Dr. Dre, who aims to bring the 2024 Olympic Games to Los Angeles dropped his first solo song, “Deep Cover”, also known as “187.” The song, which appeared on the soundtrack of Laurence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum film “Deep Cover”, was the first version by Dre post-N.W.A. and was a perfect fit for the future of the now legendary “Death Row Records”.

“Deep cover” album reached # 166 on the Billboard 200, which is far below the success Dre has achieved with Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella. However, the record established Dre as a breakout artist and introduced the world to Snoop Doggy Dogg – who last week helped induct 2Pac in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Continue reading →

Atomic Blonde New Trailer Delivers Some Fierce Remix

Yes, the coolest music video this week comes in the form of a movie trailer, that of Charlize Theron’s new action thriller Atomic Blonde. From that cool mash-up of Kanye’s “Black Skinhead” and Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus”, to a remix of the Eurythmics’s “Sweet Dreams”, and some help from New Order, the trailer’s music captures the intensity of its impressive fight scenes.

Based on Antony Johnston’s 2012 graphic novel The Coldest City, Atomic Blonde is an action spy thriller set in Berlin’s world of espionage underworld, centering on the eve of the collapse of Berlin Wall. The story follows Theron’s Lorraine Broughton on a mission “to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies”.

Directed by David Leitch (John Wick), and written by Kurt Johnstad (300), the movie also star James McAvoy, John Goodman, Toby Jones and Sofia Boutella. The film made a big splash at South by Southwest back in March and will open nationwide on July 28.

Drake leads the 2017 Billboard Music Awards Nominations. The Chainsmokers were also recognized for their hits “Closer” and “Don’t Let Me Down,”. The two artists set a record for most nominations in a year, with 22 nominations each. Not surprising since both dominated the charts the past year. Other big nominees include Twenty One Pilots with 17 nominations, and Rihanna with 14.

All in all, the nominations represent current familiar who’s who in the music industry. The 2017 Billboard Music Awards are set to air May 21 on ABC.

An Album Review: Pure Comedy by Father John Misty

Father John Misty’s, also known as John Tillman album released on April 7, 2017, making it his third album in the past five years, yet this album, thematically, takes on on a whole new world of it’s own. Pure Comedy is reflection of Tillman’s perspective on the current state of the world, and by that extension, the album take on darker tones and almost creates a sense of hopelessness in the listener, surely Tillman intended for this.

From the first track-list, also titled Pure Comedy, to the last track, “In Twenty Years or So”, Tillman presents himself as a modern prophet by taking his earlier ideas from songs, like “Bored In The USA”, and building on the concepts of the sedation of the American people by means of media.

Yet even with the ideological difference Pure Comedy takes on, the music that his fans are familiar with is still there, but what truly makes Pure Comedy special is what it achieves beyond the notes. This album is a prophecy from a man who has had enough and it will be interesting to see if his predictions prove to be correct.

Overall, old fans and new fans will be able to enjoy Pure Comedy as much as they allow themselves to.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2017: Tupac, Journey, Pearl Jam

It was a memorable night of great music and personal moments for the class of 2017 who were induced into annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame friday night. The ceremony was held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Inductees include Pearl Jam, Joan Baez, Tupac Shakur, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey and Yes, while producer and guitarist Nile Rodgers received a special award for musical excellence.

For the first time in more than ten years, the surviving members of Yes’ performed on stage. Also a special night for Journey fans, Steve Perry was back on stage along with Neal Schon and the rest of the band to accept their award. Kravitz also performed to honor Prince with an emotional performance of “When Doves Cry”.

David Letterman inducted Pearl Jam and praised the band for years of great music as well as their off stage work. “Human rights, environment, whether it was poverty, they didn’t let it wash over them, they would stand up and react,” he said. There is no doubt Letterman is a big Pearl Jam fan. He raved about the band’s “Hail, Hail” performance back in 1996, and since then came back six more times on the show.

For his part Vedder talked about a new generation of voices specifically Chance the Rapper. “That’s the kind of music activism that gives us all hope,” Vedder said.
