Ridley Scott Says Alien 5 Will Never Happen

By Creative Media Times

Just weeks before Alien: Covenant opens nationwide, Ridley Scott puts to rest any hopes and speculations about the possibility of ‘Alien 5’ becoming a reality.

This speculation has been around for a couple of years since ‘District 9’ director Neill Blomkamp posted a concept art on Instagram, and was later followed by Sigourney Weaver (who worked with Blomkamp in ‘Chappi’) expressing interest in doing the movie.

But with production of ‘Covenant’ sequel already underway, currently titled ‘Awakening’, it looks like Scott will be getting busy piloting the Alien franchise. Scott of course directed the original 1979 Alien film and was followed by three sequels by James Cameron, David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet successively.

Here’s portion of Scott’s statement regarding ‘Alien 5’ (translated by AVP Galaxy):

“Ridley Scott, who was in Paris for the promotion of the new opus of the saga, was even more definitive in our microphone: “I think he will never see the light,” he replied after explaining That the project was far less advanced than previously thought. “There was never a scenario, just an idea that evolved into a pitch of ten pages, I had to participate as a producer but it did not go any further because the Fox decided that She did not want to do it. I had already done Prometheus and worked on Covenant.”

But there will be plenty of ‘Alien’ movies in the pipeline for fans, starting with this summers’ Alien: Covenant. Starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, the movie opens in theaters on May 19.

‘Logan’ Returns To Theaters In Black and White

By Armando

Hugh Jackman might have ended his portrayal of the character but ‘Logan’ will be returning in theaters, at least for one day.

James Mangold’s final Wolverine solo film will be back in cinemas soon, this time in black and white which should please the movie’s most ardent fans. Director Mangold made the announcement on Twitter, including its date which is May 16th, a week before its home media release on May 23. There is not a lot of information out there as to location and theater count, but we’ll surely hear more about this soon. Back in March, Mangold confirmed the black and white version with a rather cryptic Twitter post that he was indeed “workin’ on it”.

Warner Bros.

This isn’t the first time a gritty action film from a major studio is getting a black and white treatment. Some might remember that in 2016, George Miller’s masterpiece ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ was released in black and white on Blu-ray. Dubbed “Black and Chrome Edition”, the version will receive a one-night-only theatrical showing in England this Sunday, though Miller has been talking about his intention since the film’s release back in 2015. It surely helped that the movie was critical hit and received numerous awards.

Similarly, ‘Logan’ was critical and commercial hit. On top of being the best reviewed ‘X-Men’ film, it is one of the highest grossing films this year, $604 million worldwide to date.

New Wonder Woman TV Spots

By Creative Media Times

Around a month from Wonder Woman’s release comes two new action-packed ‘Wonder Woman’ TV spots: one gives us a brief look at Ares, the movie’s villain, and the other shows us some of the movie’s comedic aspects, epic battles, and shots involving Wonder Woman’s lasso of truth.
Meanwhile, Regal Entertainment Group also announced the Wonder Woman Ultimate Ticket, which allows fans to see the movie at Regal locations once per day in any format, including 3D, IMAX, 4DX and RPX, during the film’s entire theatrical run. The ticket costs $100 (plus shipping) and is available on Regal’s website.

The first spot, titled “Together,” has a lighter tone and shows the comedic side of Chris Pine’s character (Steve Trevor) as he tries to explain his relationship with Gal Gadot’s Diana, confirming again that there’s lighthearted humor in the film along with the action and epic battles. The second spot is a bit more somber and is called “Power”. The spot gives us a glimpse of villain Ares and Diana are battling it out. Its been confirmed that the Ares will appear in the film, but this is the first time we’ve seen the villain in action.

Overall, the TV sports give us varied aspects of the film without being too spoilery, which is refreshing. That said we will surely be seeing a barrage of marketing over the next month as the studio gears up its promotional blitz near the movie’s release.

Wonder Woman also stars Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, and Danny Huston. The film arrives in theaters on June 2, 2017.

Shyamalan Announces ‘Split’ / ‘Unbreakable’ Sequel

By Armando

If you’re an M. Night Shyamalan fan, you’re probably one of those whose brain exploded after that shock ending in ‘Split’ while realizing that the rest of the audience wondered what the hell was going on.

For 17 years, fans of M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Unbreakable’ have been asking for a sequel but saw that possibility disappear over the years. Well, after the release of ‘Split’ last January, that question was finally answered, somewhat unofficially in latter film’s final minutes, but now officially on Twitter yesterday by Shyamalan himself.

It’s taken 17 years but I can finally answer the #1 question I get, ‘Are you making a f#&@ing sequel to Unbreakable or what?’ ” he tweeted. “My new film is the sequel to #Unbreakable AND #Split. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film.” A couple of hours earlier, Universal Pictures announced the title and dated the film’s release: “Universal Pictures will release #Glass on January 18, 2019 all over the world. How’s that for not keeping a secret!

Fans will remember that Mr. Glass is the criminal alias of Samuel L. Jackson’s character in Unbreakable, Elijah Price. In that movie, Price has an abnormally fragile bones and is in search of his opposite extreme, one that is “unbreakable”.

Then in the final scene in ‘Split’, that character, Bruce Willis‘ David Dunn shows up in a restaurant, watching the TV. In that scene, as everyday folks were reminded of another criminal character back in the day, David uttered “they called him Mr. Glass.”

Well, there you go. Just like that, Shyamalan has created his very own shared cinematic universe!

Rest In Peace Jonathan Demme

By Creative Media Times

John Stephen Dwyer

The great auteur who gave us ‘Silence of the Lambs’ and ‘Philadelphia’ died this morning in New York. He was 73. The Oscar-winning director died of cancer complications.

Demme rose to prominence with a wide range of genres such as the comedies Melvin and Howard (1980) and Married to the Mob (1988), the concert film featuring Talking Heads’ live performance Stop Making Sense (1984) which is hailed as one of the greatest rock movies ever, and the drama Philadelphia (1993) which won star Tom Hanks his first Best Actor Oscar.

But Demme is probably best known for directing “Silence of the Lambs,” the 1991 horror-thriller which swept the Academy Awards, winning the 5 major awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Anthony Hopkins, Best Actress for Jodie Foster and Best Adapted Screenplay for Ted Tally.

As such, this makes ‘Lambs’ only the third film in history to accomplish such a feat, and the first and only horror film to win Best Picture.

Demme is survived by his wife Joanne Howard, and their three children.

Superman Is Back In New Justice League Poster… Or Is He?

By Armando

There’s been speculation over Superman’s role in the upcoming DCEU team-up ‘Justice League’ after what transpired in ‘Batman V Superman’. In recent months Superman was also conspicuously absent in the trailer and promos. But over the weekend, a promo image shows up and it features the man of steel himself.

Which brings us back to speculation mode: will Superman be back alongside the Justice League team? Will he resurrect as a villain? Will he be the same Superman that we saw in Man of Steel? Well, before we speculate any further, be aware that the photo did not come from the studio, and that it’s nowhere to be found in the official movie site. It came from Rubies, a site that sells officially licensed DC Comics costumes.

Right now, there is still no official answer to these questions. Zack Snyder did hinted last month, though somewhat ambiguously, about Superman’s future in Justice League: “It’s hard to have a Justice League without Superman. That’s how I feel about it. It was always a super-intriguing concept to me to have this opportunity to have him make that sacrifice but also have him be this, in a weird sort of way, the why of Justice League: What do you do now with him? What does the team think? What does the world need? All that comes into play. It’s fun for us but it’ll be interesting for audiences what we do with him.

So there you go. Let the speculations begin. It is of course entirely possible that Superman won’t even show up in Justice League until the very end, ala Mark Hamill in The Force Awakens, or Snyder is just teasing fans. Speaking of which, a new Justice League website was also released yesterday which promises “access to exclusive Justice League content, products, and experiences”, something for fans to chew on as we await the movie’s release.

Justice League opens in November 17.

Scorsese, DiCaprio, De Niro May Team For ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’

By Creative Media Times

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have collaborated on many feature films since Gangs of New York, while De Niro have been starring in Scorsese’s films since 1970’s Mean Streets. Though De Niro and DiCaprio have previously worked together in 1996’s Marvin’s Room, it is surprising that the trio have not done a film together.

Well, it looks like this dream team might actually happen soon. Deadline reports that the trio are eyeing an adaptation of the book “Killers Of The Flower Moon: The Osage Murders And The Birth Of The FBI” by David Grann. Though it seems none of them are currently officially attached, according to the article, all three are “seriously considering” joining the project.

For those who might not be aware, Grann is also the author of The Lost City of Z, which was adapted into a feature film by director James Gray, starring Charlie Hunnam. That movie recently came out to critical acclaim. ‘Flower Moon’ itself has been receiving excellent reviews: Entertainment Weekly recently called it” The Best Book Of The Year So Far”. So its understandable that Grann’s latest work is a magnet for a high profile Hollywood adaptation.

Though very early into negotiations, at least we are assured of De Niro’s devotion into making this happen. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter a few month ago, De Niro said that he’d love to reunite with Scorsese and make a movie with DiCaprio: “Leo loves Marty the way I do, so it’s great. I’d love for the three of us to do something.”

Kevin Feige Says Post-Infinity War Will Be “Very Different”

By Creative Media Times

With the arrival of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes conversations about the future of MCU, and from Kevin Feige’s recent interview with Collider, it seems that future may be “very different” from what we might be expecting after Avengers: Infinity War.

“We have an idea [of what the MCU looks like post-Infinity War], and it’s gonna be very, very different,” said Feige. This statement suggest many potential shifts in MCU’s focus. Next year comes the release of Infinity War, the nineteenth film installment, which also marks tenth year since Iron Man started it all. The following year comes its currently untitled sequel. So there is reason to believe a few characters could be retired after that.

But who knows for sure. Its equally possible that the studio will give way to some of the new characters, or even possible reboots. The studio has very busy slate before Infinity War even arrives. This year alone, we will see the release of Galaxy Vol.2, Spiderman: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok, followed by Black Panther on February of next year. All these movies may come into play in shaping the future of MCU.

“We’re not actively discussing anything past untitled Avengers, other than we’ve dated Spider-Man: Homecoming 2—which that would not be the title but that’s what we would call it—because that’s the agreement we made with Sony for the inclusion of Spidey in the Avengers films, and James Gunn doing a third Guardians of the Galaxy at some point. But really the whole focus of Marvel Studios is, counting Guardians 2, the next eight films that are gonna take up all of our time.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.

Clint Eastwood To Direct Film About Hero Skarlatos And Friends

By AI Creative Media

The 15:17 To Paris: The True Story Of A Terrorist, A Train, And Three American Heroes

It seems that Clint Eastwood is continuing his passion for stories about regular guys turning into heroes. According to Deadline, the iconic director is taking on the story of Roseburg native Alek Skarlatos and his friends who thwarted a terrorist train attack in France. The story is based on the book ‘The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes.’

Last year, Eastwood directed ‘Sully’, a biographical drama about US Airways pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who made an emergency landing on the Hudson River and saved all 155 passengers and crew. Prior to that, he made ‘American Sniper’ about the Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle.

Dorothy Blyskal adapted the book for the feature with Eastwood set to produce the film with Tim Moore, Kristina Rivera and Jessica Meier.

In August 2015, Army National Guard specialist Alek Skarlatos, and his childhood friends, U.S. Airman First Class Spencer Stone and Sacramento State University senior Anthony Sadler, subdued a heavily armed terrorist while boarded on a train bound for Paris. The three friends eventually came back home to the US and received a heroes’ welcome.

Mike Nichols’ THE GRADUATE starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft BACK IN THEATERS FOR 50th ANNIVERSARY

NATIONWIDE THEATRICAL PREMIERE OF NEW 4K DIGITAL RESTORATION ON APRIL 23 AND 26
ONLY THROUGH TCM/FATHOM EVENTS

New York-based specialty distributor Rialto Pictures and Studiocanal will release Mike Nichols’ groundbreaking THE GRADUATE, starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft, in new 4K digital prints beginning in April.
The 50 anniversary restoration had its World Premiere earlier this month at the TCL Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, as the centerpiece event of this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival. The new GRADUATE restoration will play in over 700 movie theaters nationwide on April 23 and 26, as part of TCM and Fathom Events’ monthly “TCM Big Screen Classics” series.
The new restoration will also screen at this year’s Il Cinema Ritrovato festival in Bologna and will be released theatrically and as a special edition Home Entertainment release in all Studiocanal territories (France, Germany, U.K., Australia and New Zealand) throughout the summer.
Hoffman, in his star-making, breakout role, is Benjamin Braddock, the college track star suddenly adrift after graduation, and ripe for seduction by an older, married woman: Bancroft’s coldly calculating friend-of-the-family Mrs. Robinson. When Ben ultimately falls for dream girl Elaine (Katharine Ross), who happens to be the Robinsons’ daughter, it sets up a love triangle like no other in American films up to that time.
Adapted from the Charles Webb novel by Buck Henry and Calder Willingham (which immortalized the word “plastics” in the lexicon of hip expressions), THE GRADUATE was the biggest box office surprise of the decade, nominated for seven Oscars® andwinning for director Nichols’ sophomore effort. The classic “Top 40” score by Simon & Garfunkel started a new, youthful trend in soundtrack music as well.

“A MILESTONE IN AMERICAN FILM HISTORY!” – Stanley Kauffmann
