The film will be Moore’s final curtain call as an actress, and she will retire after shooting her scenes, announced Moore.

“The character of ‘The Lady in Black,’ who visits Valentino’s grave each year with a single red rose, the symbol of unspoken love, is dressed in all black not only because she is mourning the death of Rudolph Valentino, but she is mourning the whole classic Hollywood bygone era,” said Kozlov.

The film tells the story of Rudolph Valentino, the first Hollywood superstar and male sex symbol, as he ponders the most important philosophical questions of human existence from his deathbed. Critics are loving the film: currently rated with a score of 85 by Metacrtic indicating “universal acclaim” while it received 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. “The Shape of Water doesn’t disappoint,” praises Entertainment Weekly’s Chris Nashawaty. “It’s both weird and wonderful.”

Finding A Space: Interview with Composer Nathan Whitehead

By Niy Birden

Composer Nathan Whitehead

What do you expect from the composer of Keanu, the hilarious animal-friendly film starring two of the most recent breakthrough comedians of the era, Key and Peele? Would you expect the same things from the composer of The Purge series, which recently made waves not only for its inhumane storyline, but currently rather the political messages in it- or even the person who also did work for Desperate Housewives?

Nathan Whitehead happily lives in a contradiction of music creation. While he mentions that he does have more of a comfortability for horror films, his intention to consistently learn and adapt to new genres is what has helped his sounds thrive in various forms of media, whether it be video games, major films or even reality television.

In the sequel to the blockbuster hit Beyond Skyline, Nathan has found a way to cleverly create a space of unique (and we do mean incredibly unique) soundscapes fit for action movies, without the assistance of big budgets, but rather with the help of an elk bugle, of all things. Tiny breakthroughs like this show the real tenacity of a musician, whether they are in control of the music or not. Looks like the guy who had an identity crisis in his pop punk band has truly made a lane for himself.

Q: How did you get interested in film music, and who inspired you?

N: I got interested in film music I think in just always being a big movie fan and I started experimenting with music at an early age. Just playing the family piano. And that led to guitar. So I played guitar for years and wrote songs, got interested in punk rock and played in a pop punk band, but all of this time I think, the idea of just creating my own music-writing music rather than learning covers off songs, was much more appealing to write stuff. And it probably set me back in a way because as soon as I learned three chords on a guitar, I started writing music instead. I would rather write material with those 3 chords than practice some new chords.

Vertical Entertainment

It was through the punk band that I got introduced to working in a recording studio. We recorded like a 6 song ep- I was fresh out of high school actually, and shortly after that it sort of clicked that if I wrote music for movies or tv shows, or anything like that I -would get to be in my studio all the time. I really loved the studio process and I really loved writing.

And another thing that always popped up when I was in the band was sort of this identity crisis, like what is this band gonna be and what are we feeling? For whatever reason I felt like I had to figure out what the band was, which I don’t think was really important, but you know.

Q: Did that cause a lot of problems for you and the band members, or do you think that it made you guys stronger in a sense and more connected?

N: I wouldn’t say it caused problems, sometimes it caused mild disagreements, mostly it just made our songs all over the place style-wise [laughs], but that was that- it clicked- writing music for film, I could write in tons of genres. Maybe whatever the film needs. That’s easier said than done. You never know what opportunity you’re gonna get. I’ve done a lot of horror music, Beyond Skyline is this big action score. I’ve done big-band music . And back in my assistant days I wrote on Desperate Housewives for 2 and a half years.

2017 L.A. Film Critics Association Names ‘Call Me by Your Name’ As Best Pic

By Creative Media Times

‘Call Me By Your Name’ was named best picture by the Los Angeles Film Critics and the award season comes into full swing. Its star Timothée Chalamet best actor, just a few days after New York Film Critics Circle bestowed him the same accolade, while the film’s director Luca Guadagnino tied for best director with The Shape of Water’s Guillermo del Toro.

After missing the top awards New York, del Toro’s fantasy drama film seem to be gaining steam again as “The Shape of Water” also scored three wins. In addition to the aforementioned best director, the film also scored wins in cinematography and best actress for Sally Hawkins.

Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird” landed only one award from the Los Angeles critics as Laurie Metcalf won best supporting actress, though the critics group also gave Gerwig its “new generation” award for her directorial debut. “Lady Bird” was named best film by New York Film Critics Circle.

Another award that matched with the critics’ New York counterparts is the best supporting actor award given to Willem Dafoe as manager of The Magic Castle Motel Bobby Hicks.

LAFCA has had a pretty solid record in terms of predicting eventual Oscar winners. During the last decade the group awarded best actress accolades to Helen Mirren, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, and Patricia Arquette, and best actor to Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Penn, Jeff Bridges, Colin Firth, all of which ended up winning top acting wins at the Oscars.

The awards will be handed out at an annual dinner on Jan. 13, at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles. The association earlier announced that actor Max von Sydow will be recognized with a career achievement award.

First Pic Of Brenton Thwaites As Robin Revealed

By Armando

WB.
DC Entertainment

It looks like Robin is getting ready to step on his own spotlight sans crime fighting partner Batman. On Friday, Warner Brothers released the first image of the Boy Wonder as played by Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites.

The moody character photo shows a side profile of Robin with the dark clouds on the background and his bo staff weapon resting on his shoulder.

From what is shown on the image, the iconic costume is faithful to the comics overall, somewhat a combination of the classic look from the animated Teen Titans and the modernized version we see in Arkham video games.

Designed by Laura Jean Shannon (who is also credited for Black Lightning, Iron Man and The Jingle Book), the stylized outfit incorporates the red and green with the yellow R badge, color palettes that followed the character’s costume since its introduction in 1940 by Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson.

The actor is clearly excited about his new role. “Here we go!!! First fight scene with my R Kicking ass in a downtown Gotham alleyway. #robinrevealed #titans,” says Thwaites on Twitter. Thwaites recently appeared in this summer’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and in 2016’s Gods of Egypt.

Based on various incarnations of the characters from DC Comics, the upcoming tv series follows the young group of superheroes known as Titans, with Thwaites’ Robin as the leader of the band of heroes which also includes Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft), Garfield “Gar” Logan / Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), Hank Hall / Hawk (Alan Ritchson), Dawn Granger / Dove (Minka Kelly), and Amy Rohrbach (Lindsey Gort).

Titans is set to launch in 2018 on DC Comics new digital service.

New York Film Critics Circle: “Lady Bird” Win Big

By Creative Media Times

A24

This has been a major week for award contenders that saw “Get Out” and “Call Me by Your Name” taking top honors at the Gotham Awards and “The Post” at National Board of Review. On Thursday it was NYFCC’s turn to give their take on the 2017’s best films as leading contenders are starting to take shape.

Writer-director Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird” from A24 was the big winner at the Thursday’s New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) Thursday. The film was named best film of 2017 while its star Saoirse Ronan earn best actress. This is a major boost to “Lady Bird”, with NYFCC being the first organization of film critics to bestow their year-end film accolades.

Independent entertainment company A24 was well represented as its comedy-drama film “The Florida Project” also received best director and best supporting actor wins for Sean Baker and Willem Dafoe respectively.

Though histrionically a solid harbinger for the awards season, it remains to be seen how this year’s NYFCC will align with the Oscars. Last year’s top prize went to La La Land, which eventually lost Barry Jenkins’s Moonlight at the Oscars.

The New York Film Critics Circle was founded in 1935, making it the oldest running in the US. With a membership count of over 30 film critics from New York-based daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, online publications, it is also one of the most prestigious. This year’s gala awards dinner will be held on January 3, 2018 and will be dedicated to the memory of Richard Schickel.

‘Thoroughbreds’ Trailer Released

By Creative Media Times

Focus Features

Focus Features has released the second trailer for its upcoming drama thriller Thoroughbreds and it doubles down on the twisted yet hilarious weirdness of the first trailer. “The only thing worse than being incompetent, or being unkind, or being evil, is being indecisive,” says Olivia Cooke’s Amanda.

Directed by Cory Finley from a screenplay he also wrote, the drama thriller stars Anya Taylor-Joy (“Split”), Olivia Cooke (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”), Paul Sparks (Netflix’s “House of Cards”) and Anton Yelchin (“Star Trek” films) in his last role before his tragic death last year.

The film has so far been a festival favorite. Early this year, the movie premiered at Sundance Film Festival, and is scheduled for release on select theaters March 9, 2018.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily’s contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another’s most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.
