Woody Allen’s new film “Wonder Wheel” is set to close 2017 New York Film Festival, where the movie will premiere, this according to an exclusive report from Hollywood Reporter. The film will premiere at Manhattan’s Alice Tully Hall on Saturday, October 14.

The annual film festival, held annually in New York and presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC), has been a major departure point for movies seeking early awards notice. Last year, both Manchester By The Sea and Moonlight screened during the festival; both films eventually had successful awards season journey which led to Best Picture noms at the Oscars.

Set in the 1950s, Wonder Wheel stars Kate Winslet who leads an ensemble cast which includes Juno Temple, Justin Timberlake and James Belushi. Allen also wrote the original script. Oscar-winning cinematographer Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now) shot the film.

Allen’s movie is also in the news for another reason: “Wonder Wheel” will be distributed by Amazon, making it the online retail giant’s first solo venture into self-distribution, moving closer into establishing itself a major film studio.

Amazon has previously partnered with Lionsgate and Roadside Attraction in distributing its films, but “Wheel” will be the first movie that it will distribute on its own.

The film will go into limited release December 1.
