“There are other worlds than these,” a quote from the Stephen King books as it appears on the poster of The Dark Tower, the long-awaited film adaptation that will arrive in theaters this summer.
The one-sheet was revealed by King himself on Twitter (below), along with a short message: “Pilgrim, there are other worlds than these. Come with us on the adventure.” Shortly after, Matthew McConaughey, who plays the antagonist Walter Padick, posted his own tweet, “Flip your phone to see what I see.”
Indeed, the striking poster shows Roland the Gunslinger (Idris Elba) and the boy adventurer Jake (Tom Taylor) at the bottom, and when flipped upside-down shows McConaughey’s dark sorcerer Walter, also known as The Man In Black. It is a clever concept, especially if you notice how The Tower itself appears as a negative space silhouette created by the inverted Manhattan skyscrapers and is piercing into the pavement.
It is an intriguing image worthy of the high anticipation the movie carries since multiple development phases started in 2007. J.J. Abrams and Ron Howard were attached during some of these phases before it landed on Danish filmmaker and screenwriter Nikolaj Arcel.
“The Dark Tower” also stars Abbey Lee, Katheryn Winnick, Fran Kranz, Claudia Kim and Jackie Earle Haley, and is set to arrive July 28.
