The first trailer for “Promising Young Woman” was released on Wednesday, and is causing quite a stir almost immediately, racking up a million views on YouTube by Friday.
The drama thriller features Carey Mulligan as Cassie, a woman who seeks revenge on predators in local bars by pretending to be drunk to see if a “nice guy” would rescue her. But once the men take her home, she becomes sober, and things get very interesting.
“Every week, I go to a club,” Mulligan says in the trailer. “I act like I’m too drunk to stand. And every week a nice guy comes over to see if I’m okay.”
Written and directed by Killing Eve’s season-two showrunner and The Crown’s Young Camilla Emerald Fennell in her directorial debut, “Promising Young Woman” is billed by Focus Features as “a delicious new take on revenge.”
Promising Young Woman is set for release in theaters this April. Watch the trailer below.
