The Dexter Fletcher-directed Elton John biopic “Rocketman” is set to make its global debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 16, two weeks before it’s release in the United States, Variety is reporting.
The film features Taron Egerton as John with Paramount Pictures distributing worldwide, reuniting him with his Eddie the Eagle director Fletcher.
“We are incredibly honoured and excited to premiere our movie Rocketman at the Cannes film festival on May 16th. This has been a labour of love for all of us and we couldn’t dream of a better launching pad for this very special film,” said Rocket Pictures and Marv Films in a statement.
Fletcher recently directed the recent blockbuster Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
Rocketman also stars with Jamie Bell as longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard and Gemma Jones.
The 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival will run from May 14 to 25, with the full slate set to be released on Thursday. Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy “The Dead Don’t Die” will open the festival.
