The first official trailer for upcoming fantasy adventure film has been released by 20th Century Fox on Wednesday, providing a first look at the latest adaptation of the Arthurian legend.

Starring Louis Ashbourne Serkis (Andy Serkis’ son), Sir Patrick Stewart (X-Men series) and Rebecca Ferguson (who was recently seen in the latest Mission Impossible hit), the film is director Joe Cornish’s follow up to 2011’s science fiction comedy horror “Attack the Block”.

Here we see a down-on-his-luck 12-year-old Alex (Serkis) who, after discovering the mythical sword Excalibur, bands with his friends and enemies to thwart a medieval villain named Morgana and an army of evil creatures. The film looks like a fun and unique take on the story.

The film is produced by Nira Park (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver), Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and also features Dean Chaumoo, Tom Taylor, and Rhianna Dorris.

“The Kid Who Would Be King” is set for release on 25 January 2019.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Old school magic meets the modern world in the epic adventure THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING. Alex (Ashbourne Serkis) thinks he’s just another nobody, until he stumbles upon the mythical Sword in the Stone, Excalibur. Now, he must unite his friends and enemies into a band of knights and, together with the legendary wizard Merlin (Stewart), take on the wicked enchantress Morgana (Ferguson). With the future at stake, Alex must become the great leader he never dreamed he could be.
