“So” is Gabriel’s best-selling release and was certified five times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album’s lead single “Sledgehammer” topped Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1986, thanks in part to its innovative video which won nine awards at the MTV Video Music Awards, a record for most awards in a single night at the VMAs.
In 2010, Gabriel was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the English rock band Genesis. A few years later, in 2014, he was inducted again, this time as a solo artist.
