Roadside Attractions and Vertical have teamed up to acquire U.S. distribution rights to The Gallerist, the Sundance breakout from Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan, the companies announced. The crime comedy will hit theaters December 4, 2026.

The MRC production stars Natalie Portman as a gallery owner navigating a messy divorce, mounting debt, and questionable decisions after a body turns up at the worst possible moment — specifically, right as she’s trying to stage her career-defining show at Art Basel Miami. Rather than call the authorities, she opts to make the corpse the exhibit’s centerpiece, kicking off a chaotic spiral involving influencers, cops, and her own increasingly shaky moral compass.

Jenna Ortega co-stars alongside an ensemble that reads like an awards-season fantasy draft: Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Brühl, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and pop star Charli XCX round out the cast, with Zach Galifianakis reportedly stealing scenes as an art-world influencer.

James Pedersen (High Heat) wrote the script. Producers include Ash Sarohia, Sophie Mas and Portman herself, Jonathan King, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron and Zola Elgart Glassman.

“Cathy Yan’s wildly original film was a winner for us at Sundance,” said Roadside Attractions co-presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff and Vertical CEO Peter Jarowey in a joint statement, calling the film “as fun as it is terrifying.”

Yan broke out with 2018’s Dead Pigs, which won the Special Jury Prize for Ensemble Acting at Sundance, before directing Birds of Prey for Warner Bros. and picking up an Emmy nomination for an episode of HBO’s Succession.

The deal was negotiated by Cohen, Jarowey and Roadside’s SVP of Acquisitions Tony Piantedosi on behalf of the distributors.
