Netflix has released the trailer for Lost in Starlight, its first Korean original animated film, debuting globally on May 30, 2025.
Set in 2050 Seoul, the film follows Nan-young (Kim Tae-ri), an astronaut selected for a Mars expedition, and Jay (Hong Kyung), a musician restoring vintage audio gear. Their romance begins when Nan-young visits Jay’s shop to repair her late mother’s record player—just before she’s called to fulfill her lifelong dream in space.
Directed by Han Ji-won (The Summer) and co-written with Kang Hyun-joo (The Scarlet Letter), the film blends K-drama emotion with lush animation, drawing comparisons to Your Name and Suzume. It also features retro-futuristic touches and reimagined Seoul landmarks.
Acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho has called the film a “visual masterpiece,” adding to the growing buzz.
Lost in Starlight premieres May 30 on Netflix.
