The eighth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise, “The Fate Of The Furious” becomes only the eight film in history to cross the $1 billion boxoffice milestone internationally.
As of Sunday, the F. Gary Gray has made $1.223 billion. The film joins five other movies such as “Avatar” ($2 billion), “Titanic” ($1.5 billion), “Furious 7” ($1.16 billion), “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($1.1 billion), and “Jurassic World” ($1 billion) in the exclusive list of movies crossing the $1 billion international boxoffice threshold.
Domestically, the film is still in 1,358 screens and made $1,480,535 over the 4-day Memorial Day holiday weekend. Globally, the movie is currently the 2nd highest grossing film of 2017, narrowly behind Beauty and the Beast (2017), with a mere $9 million separating the two. It would be interesting to see where both end up ranking when all is said and done.
Universal has already dated ‘Fast & Furious’ Parts 9 and 10, and ‘F8”s boxoffice gains this week will most likely solidify production of those sequels.
