A24 has released the first full-length trailer for “Waves,” the upcoming critically acclaimed ensemble drama headed by This Is Us actor, Sterling K. Brown.
“Lord knows I’ve held on to way too much hate in my life,” Brown’s Ronald says in the trailer. “But all we have is love. All we have is now.”
The beautifully shot trailer prominently features Frank Ocean’s 2016 cut “Godspeed.” From writer-director Trey Edward Shults (“It Comes At Night”), the film has garnered rave reviews at the Telluride Film Festival when it premiered during Labor Day Weekend.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails scored the film. Having won Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Social Network, the two has certainly built an eclectic body of work in similarly impressive wide-ranging types of films including The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), and Gone Girl (2014).
In addition to Brown, the film features Alexa Demie, Taylor Russell, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Lucas Hedges. The film will next screen at Toronto International Film Festival ahead of its release on November 1, 2019 by A24.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Set against the vibrant landscape of South Florida, and featuring an astonishing ensemble of award-winning actors and breakouts alike, Waves traces the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family—led by a well-intentioned but domineering father—as they navigate love, forgiveness and coming together in the aftermath of a loss. From acclaimed director Trey Edward Shults, Waves is a heartrending story about the universal capacity for compassion and growth even in the darkest of times.
