By Creative Media Times

Production of “Wonder Woman” sequel is almost underway and the film has finally found its villain.

Director Patty Jenkins confirmed on her twitter account today the speculations running around fandom throughout the week: Kristen Wiig will be playing Wonder Woman’s iconic DC Comics villain Cheetah.

So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot

Meanwhile, the Amazonian princess herself Gal Gadot also expressed excitement about the casting: “This is going to be WONDERful!”

Created by William Moulton Marston, the character has four different incarnations: Priscilla Rich which first appeared in 1943, Deborah Domaine in 1980, Barbara Ann Minerva which debuted in 1987, and most recently Sebastian Ballestreros in 2001. It has not been announced which version Wiig will be playing in the film.

Wonder Woman was a critical and commercial success this past summer, grossing $412 million in the US and $813 million worldwide.

Though not a lot of details about the film has been revealed so far, it is known among fandom that the film will be set in the 1980s during the Cold War and could potentially see the return of Chris Pine. The sequel was officially announced by Warner Bros. at last summer’s San Diego Comicon.

Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled for release in November 2019.
