Grammy-nominated musician, DJ, and record producer was found dead in Muscat, Oman. He was 28. His publicist Diana Baron confirmed in a statement to Billboard. A cause of death has not been released.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” the statement read. “The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

Born Tim Bergling, Avicii is one of the most popular EDM acts in the world. He was twice nominated for a Grammy Award, first in 2012 for “Sunshine” with David Guetta, and another in 2013 song “Levels”. He has also been nominated for MTV Europe Music Awards and a Billboard Music Award.

In summer of 2013, the superstar DJ released “Wake Me Up” as the lead single from his highly anticipated and debut album “True”. The track would become one of Avicii’s biggest global hit, reaching number one in 22 countries and number 4 on Billboard Hot 100.

On 29 March, Avicci announced via his website that he is retiring from touring and live performance which culminated in Ibiza later that year. “I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist. I will however never let go of music — I will continue to speak to my fans through it,” Avicii wrote.

In spite of that announcement, Avicci continued to release new music including his latest EP, Avīci (01) which was released on August 2017 though Avicii Music. The EP hit the top 3 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums and was to become his last release.
